FF League 1: Live Draft Results
August 15, 2008
While it was not very active in participants or much of a challenge in the live draft, there were 12 people. Here is what I ended up drafting.
RB: S. Jackson, R. Grant, T. Jones, M. Morris, D. Walker
QB: J. Campbell, P. Rivers
WR: B. Edwards, R. Williams, J. Cotchery, S. Rice
TE: O. Daniels, D. Campbell
K: K. Brown
TM: Colts
Should be a pretty easy season in this league.
Early Rising & Meeting the Sun
August 14, 2008
Though it is not an original idea about waking up early to get more things done, as noted here, here, and here, I’ll be doing it from now on. The plan is to wake at 06:00, do prayers and study before getting ready for work at around 07:15.
So, today is the second day of attempting this schedule and I’m still getting into the rhythm of it. I think though after a week I’ll be adjusted to the new schedule of getting to sleep around 22:30 and waking at 06:00.
For the rest of this month anyways, here is my plan:
- Pray the Angelus
- Pray Lauds.
- Read scripture.
- Read “Jesus of Nazareth” by Pope Benedict XVI.
As getting up at 5AM is just too early for me right now, I’ll have to fit in exercising till after work. I did start the hundred pushups program (again) and am sore at the moment, yet looking forward to getting better at those!
I’ll basically be using the morning time so that I can focus better on prayer and study without the weight of the day on my shoulders and thoughts. I will not be online during that time, unless I need to look something up only.

In search of the perfect watch…
August 11, 2008
I’m very particular about what kind of watch I want. As I don’t wear watches and don’t like anything fancy, it creates a problem because there are few that are pleasing to me to have. And once I have found some that I do like, they tend to be more expensive that I am willing to spend.
I am clumsy and bump into things, so damage to the watch is just something that is going to happen. With an expensive watch, each scratch is just that more painful than something that can be replaced after a year or less.

This is the watch that I ended up getting. It doesn’t have an alarm clock on it though… which my best friend reminded me about after I purchased it, oh well. I like really simple and a little bit old fashioned style. Nothing flashy, more of beauty in the simplicity and design.
Here are some prospects that either were just too much or just not what I wanted totally with price.

This one was nice, yet a bit too expensive at £378!

Yes, Swatch watches still are expensive.

This one seems very cool, yet also the price tag is a bit much at $250.00.
So, do you have any recommendations for watches? I’d totally love the one I have on now if I just had an alarm.
Flickr 365days Project
April 29, 2008
Update: Ok, I ended up dropping out of the project, it was just too much to keep up with. May give it another go eventually someday… (priorities, etc).
I decided to join the Flickr.com 365 Days project. Here is a bit more about the group as defined in the rules.
The 365 Days group is a project in which members submit one self portrait each day for a year.
All of the rules are right there in that one sentence, but it seems to confuse so many folks, so we’ll elaborate a bit:
A self portrait is a photo of yourself taken by you - it is not a photo of you taken by someone else and it is not a photo of something you hold near and dear to your heart. Please don’t try to interpret ’self portrait’ into something drastically different than what it is.
You are only allowed to submit one photo for each day. Only one. Feel free to do whatever you want to do within your own 365 Days set, but only send one to the pool.
You should plan on taking a shot every day for a year. If you miss one or two days, that’s fine. If your camera breaks and you miss an entire month, we’re not gonna kick you out. But if you take a self portrait once every five weeks and send it to this group along with every other self portrait group on Flickr, your photo will be removed.
It seems interesting very interest and there are a lot of amazing photographs taken by people. I hope to be able to come up with interesting pictures over time. I also like the commitment of doing something everyday for 365 days. That’s great!

So, hope something good comes out of it. Here is my set for the group: http://www.flickr.com/photos/unixfudotnet/sets/72157604739863841/.
It’s already becoming difficult to come up with something interesting. Maybe that’s where cool stuff comes from?! I don’t know, I’m not an artistic person, yet would like to be.
The Gym for Fat People
April 10, 2008
I’m a chubster, I’ll be the first to admit it. I got a Buddha belly. For those that want one, it’s real easy to do: don’t exercise and eat right. In hindsight, maybe all those cans and bottles of high caffeine soda weren’t the best idea (I started when Jolt was the only player on the block for high caffeinated drinks and it only got crazier).
I’ve been going to the gym lately and trying to get into a routine. So, starting to go 3 days a week to lift some weights. Doing the push, pull, and legs routine. It’s pretty easy to do and I end the week with heavy squats (my favorite exercise). I’m not trying to overcommit myself in this endeavor as that always leads to eventual failure. So, starting small.
Here are some resources I found on zenhabits.net that I find helpful: Top 42 Exercise Hacks, 31 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Exercise, and 4 Simple Steps to Start the Exercise Habit.
The hardest part is just getting to the gym. Once I am there, I’m in heaven. Can you relate? Do you have any tips or advice? Leave a comment and let me know! Rock on.
Goals - April 2008
April 8, 2008
While not as elegant or detailed, my main goal for April is just to get through stuff and not fall behind.
- Get enough sleep.
- Make time for Guitar Hero (all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy).
- Finish college assignments and study, including allocating and sticking to times as it is self managed.
- Learn more and finish reading books I’m working on.
- Keep in contact with friends.
- Don’t spend money stupidly.
- Keep going to the gym.
Yeah, so not that cool or neat. Yet, I feel I need to post this as I made a goal of setting goals each month. I feel I can do the above… just need to get into a structured rhythm in my life. I work best in structure, even if self-imposed.
